Reading Time 4 minute read

Good things come to those who wait. Sure, but who has time to wait?

This is where the story of the Watson family begins. The family had dreamed of this trip since the twins were little. So now Steve and Tina Watson packed up the SUV and headed due south — all the way from Florence, Alabama with their tween twins, Sarah and Mia, to visit Universal Orlando Resorts.

For much of the drive, Sarah was curled up reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (for the third time) as Mia proficiently played her video games. The ten hour drive to Orlando was slowed due to traffic and bouts of inclement weather but the Watsons finally reached The City Beautiful.

Worn out from the drive, they arrived at their elegant 3-bedroom vacation condo, enjoyed a light meal and relaxed in the spacious living room to plan their 2-Day, 2-Park (Park-to-Park admission) Universal adventure. July is booming at Orlando's theme parks. The drawback is, of course, the more people at the park, the longer the lines for concessions, rides and attractions. And in the excitement of their prudent planning, waiting in line was the one thing the Watsons forgot to take into consideration.

Time to go

After a good night's sleep, the Watson family eagerly piled into their SUV and headed out. During their planning session the night before, the girls agreed to visit Universal's Islands of Adventure™ first and save Universal Studios Florida™ for last. Sarah and Mia simply couldn't wait to take the Hogwarts™ Express to Hogsmeade™. Seeing the sheer joy on her girls' faces as they arrived at the park, Tina teared up. This was a long-awaited and momentous moment in their lives as a family. And with boundless energy, the foursome sprinted towards the incredibly popular attraction.

The waiting game

As they came closer, they noticed a very long line to board the Hogwarts Express. Wow, a 60-minute wait time! The thought of standing in line for an hour in this heat with a set of very excited tween twins was too much for Steve. He asked Tina if she knew of a way to get around the crowds. A member of the family standing in front of the Watsons overheard Steve's question, turned around and said that they had just discovered a free app where they could customize their day at Universal. An app with directions, wait times, restroom locations — even a way to set a reminder of where they had parked their car!

Time was on their side

Immediately, Mia — the tech-savvy twin — was on it! She whipped out her smart phone, located The Official Universal Orlando Resort™ App and downloaded it. The Watsons spent most of their time waiting in line planning the rest of their day. They saved time, money and their sanity with this one little app that gave them everything they needed to know about Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios.

They found Bubba Gump's at CityWalk (their new favorite restaurant) and after a delicious dinner of pan-fried shrimp for Steve, steamed shrimp for Tina, shrimp and potatoes for Sarah, and shrimp creole for Mia, the Watson family — with no time to waste — opened their invaluable Universal Studios app and designed their next day's adventure.

There are plenty of free apps to choose from.
