Christmas time in Orlando is a beautiful thing. If you are not dreaming of a white Christmas, Central Florida is your kind of holiday destination. This year, gather friends and family in a spacious luxury vacation villa and make the most of it with our world-class theme parks, wonderful climate, a short drive to beautiful beaches, great restaurants and entertainment galore. If you want to sprinkle arts and culture into your holiday celebrations, head to the Orlando Museum of Art for their 33rd annual Festival of Trees event that runs from Friday, November 15 through Sunday, November 24 and offers spectacular yuletide festivities that complement the holiday season for loved ones of all ages.
The Festival of Trees is a Central Florida tradition that transforms the Orlando Museum of Art (OMART) into a glittering wonderland filled with elaborately decorated trees and wreaths, colorful vignettes and stunning décor and—believe it or not—it’s all for sale. Imagine bringing home a fully decorated one-of-a-kind tree as a souvenir!
Year after year, more than 20,000 people visit this festival. I’ve been many times and I’m always delighted by the flurry of activity, the lights, sounds, colors, and sensational artworks. I find it hard to concentrate because there is something sparkling on all sides...although, I consistently manage to find a favorite tree. The Gingerbread Village is a fun treat as well. Each year there is a different theme, special performances, raffles, shopping, activities for kids of all ages and pretty much non-stop entertainment by local musicians, singers, and dancers. An extremely family-friendly event, you can all stroll through the decked halls of the museum and admire the trees, vignettes, decorations and gingerbread houses that are designed by local business and community groups, artists and designers.
Aside from the galleries of beautifully themed trees, here are some of the highlights of the festival.
Deck the Halls
The halls brim with uniquely-designed trees, centerpieces, wreaths, and garlands all of which are for sale. Entertaining by Design is an area of elegant one-of-a-kind table settings and sponsor-related items which will be raffled off.
Here you’ll be surrounded by fantastical spicy creations curated by local professional bakers. Santa Claus Lane is a winter wonderland of creative crafts, stockings, games, and activities where your kids can meet Santa!
The Holiday Boutique is an enchanting shopping spot showcasing ornaments and furnishings. Similarly, Toyland is where you can buy unique gifts, decor, and ornaments (all under $30!) for everyone on your list.
And when it’s time to take a well-deserved break, enjoy a light lunch or dessert and coffee at the Festival Cafe. Proceeds of this premier 10-day event benefit Lifelong Learning at the Orlando Museum of Art as well as the programs and exhibitions that it offers year-round to Central Floridians.
