Enhance Your Fall Vacation
Autumn is in full glory here in Central Florida and the holidays are upon us. You have packed up the family and everyone is in fun mode. Now, other than heading to our world-class theme parks, what adventures can you embark upon to take advantage of the area's awesome autumn offerings that are close to your vacation villa?
Small Town. Big Charm.
How about a getaway to lovely Mount Dora? This picturesque town, just a 45-minute drive north of Orlando, offers lots of small-town fun during the autumn and holiday season.
Stroll the quaint streets, particularly festive when they are decked out for the holidays. Enjoy wonderful meals and excellent ice cream, browse art galleries and charming little shops (antiquing here is amazing) to pick up unique holiday gifts, ornaments and decorations.
A cherished local fall tradition in Mount Dora is getting lost in a corn maze. Scott's Maze Adventures at Long & Scott Farms features an exciting maze that changes themes each year. So, forget about memorizing the way out of last year's maze!
Spend the day gliding down their 60-foot slide, fishing in the pond, taking a hayride, having a picnic or simply just enjoy the uplifting country atmosphere. View more information on this special destination.
Get Your Holiday Off on the Right Foot
Thanksgiving races are not uncommon, and here in Orlando we certainly have a special one of our own. Turkey Trot 2017 is held starting at 8 am (long before your big feast) on Thanksgiving Day in beautiful downtown Orlando. Dress up the family in their best Pilgrim or Turkey attire and either run the race or simply enjoy cheering on the participants from the sidelines.
If running with a few thousand other turkey gobblers is not for you, how about a hike? Nothing like a long walk under a clear autumn sky to settle your stomach after a big holiday dinner. Orlando is of course known for its theme parks but, rest assured, its natural beauty is right up there with Cinderella Castle. Here is a shortlist of some of the best walking/hiking trails in the area:
- The Seminole-Wekiva Trail
- Disney Wilderness Preserve
- Bear Creek Nature Trail
- Big Tree Park
- Black Hammock Trail
Spread Kindness and Cheer
What could make your own Thanksgiving dinner even more delicious? Maybe taking the family to volunteer to feed others on Thanksgiving weekend. There are many non-profit organizations in the Orlando area where you and your family can volunteer to feed those less fortunate. You can google the organization of your choice and spread much-appreciated joy before your own family celebration. What a difference a few giving hours can make in the lives of everyone involved.
Whatever you choose to do on your holiday vacation, make it something that the family will remember fondly forever. Happy Holidays to you and your family from Reunion Vacation Homes.
