Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) at Universal Orlando is the event of the year for those of you who, like me, enjoy a good, fun fright. It starts on September 6 and runs through November 2. Prepare your family (not recommended for kids under 13) for a night of thrills, chills, and faux kills.
Every year, you can count on getting an all-new Halloween Horror Nights experience and this year is no exception. In 2019, we welcome the 80s back with a vengeance, including some of the biggest frights of that decade. There are 10 new haunted houses, five terrifying scare zones and, as always, fantastical live entertainment.
Here’s a quick breakdown of a few of the world-class haunted houses you’ll enjoy: Everyone’s favorite, Stranger Things, returns to thrill the mouthbreathers in your family. With great trepidation, enter the all-new Upside Down at your own risk. Nightengale’s Blood Pit is complete with a ruthless Emperor and beweaponed monsters who put the Glad in Gladiators. Not. Universal’s Monsters - Drac is back! Come face-to-frightening-face with The Count as well as Dr. Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolfman (resist the urge to pet him), the Mummy, the Creature from the Black Lagoon and more. The brand new Depths of Fear mixes aspects of the unknown with underwater elements, and monstrous creatures. Let’s put it this way: Enjoy your vacation day at the beach BEFORE entering this house. There are 6 other haunted houses that you can explore, just beware that that long lines to get in can be as scary as the houses themselves.
Walking from house to house, you’ll have to wander through Scare Zones. I wear a white shirt to HHN every year just so that Zone monsters will spot me and choose me as a victim. What should you expect? The Anarch-cade zone, an 80s-inspired gaming arcade, takes over Avenue of the Stars. At first glance, you may think it’s a party. It isn’t. And it gives the term, “Game Over” a whole new meaning. Another new zone is Vanity Ball where beauty is pain. Literally. Blade-wielding artists will “slice you up” into a horrific living work of art if you’re not careful. Plus, shock-rock favorite Rob Zombie’s heavy metal horror Hillbilly Deluxe stars murderous maniacs and other crazies that come from Rob’s brilliant but twisted mind.
Academy of Villains: Altered States
The uber-talented Academy of Villains is back with its troop of incredible artists! Experience wild and wicked performances with a killer mix of visionary dance and extraordinary theatrics.
Halloween Marathon of Mayhem
Take a load off and catch your breath by heading to Universal Studios’ lagoon to watch it transform into a spectacle of neon and synth. This brand new show features iconic scenes from top TV shows, horror films, and cult classics.
In between the houses, shows, and zones, you can also enjoy (the lines are often short!) your favorite Universal rides! For all the information on tickets, times and general info, visit Universal Orlando’swebsite.
