What's Cooler than Cool? ICE!

Lucky Central Floridians enjoy an average high temperature of 73 during the month of December. Ice is the last thing we think about, except for maybe those little clear cubes that tinkle in our cold beverage of choice.

But one winter tradition we enjoy here in Orlando is the annual ICE! at Gaylord Palms, an indoor winter wonderland that is the highlight of Christmas at Gaylord Palms event. Kept at a chilly 9 (and F in this case stands for freezing for us Florida folk), it features:

  • Two million pounds of ice sculptures, hand-carved by artisans from China
  • Five ice slides, plus interactive Christmas displays and photo opportunities
  • Scenes of holiday celebrations from around the world
  • The Frostbite Factory a live carving zone showcasing the artisans
  • A breathtaking Nativity scene carved from crystal-clear ice

During Christmas at Gaylord Palms, you and your family will marvel at lavish holiday displays that include more than 2 million twinkling Christmas lights and acres of larger-than-life decorations. Enjoy Cirque Dreams UnWrapped Live Stage Show a dazzling array of seasonal characters brought to life in a dreamscape of imaginative costumes and creativity while stunning feats of showmanship are performed on stage and in the air. Plus a celebration of cultures and other exclusive holiday events and attractions to get you in the spirit of the season. And of course, delight the kids with a trip to the North Pole to see Santa and his elves.

All this frozen fun is only about an 11-mile drive from your luxury vacation villa.

Everyone's Favorite Combination: Fun and Food

Since we are talking about Gaylord Palms, I'd be remiss if I did not mention its restaurants.

Enjoy fine dining, a large wine selection and unparalleled service at Old Hickory Steakhouse. Or treat the family to fresh seafood with innovative and sustainable dishes at Moor, located in the Key West atrium. Villa De Flora offers a Mediterranean feast and a seasonal menu that has earned this spot the Critic's Choice for Best Brunch awarded by the Orlando Sentinel. I went there for a company Christmas party and let me tell you from personal experience, it was spectacular.

For more casual treats, head to Wreckers Sports Bar and catch your favorite games on one of more than 50 HDTVs. If American cuisine al fresco appeals best to your crew, grab a bite at Sand overlooking the pool. They offer fast food done fun plus beach-inspired beverages and a kids menu. There is also Emerald Bay Marketplace to pick up fresh pastries and on-the-go sandwiches as well as house-made wraps and salads. Pair your entre with a cold beer, wine or Starbucks coffee.

If you need your morning joe, The Cocoa Bean Coffee House is the place to start your busy day with an energizing cup of freshly brewed Starbucks coffee, bakery items or grab-n-go snacks. And then there is Honeybells Frozen Yogurt which offers a sweets buffet where each family member can add their own favorite toppings and create a unique icy treat.

Why not take advantage of the wonderful dining options at this unique destination when you go to experience ICE! at Gaylord Palms? Combine food and fun, and make it a holiday treat for the family to remember forever.
