Springtime is the right time to be in Central Florida. The sun is shining, the air not yet balmy, water temperatures are swimmable, flowers are blooming and you can thaw out from a long, cold hibernation. Here are a few ideas on how to enjoy Florida’s most beautiful season on your vacation. Many of these places are not at full capacity during this time of year, which make them even more enjoyable.
Kelly Park/Rock Springs
Kelly Park, located about an hour’s drive from your luxury villa, features Rock Springs—a free- flowing natural spring that comes from a vertical rock bluff—and boasts a refreshing 68 degrees water temperature year-round. It also offers Rock Springs Run which is a clear and fast-moving creek perfect for tubing. Take the family canoeing, kayaking or hiking and then round out the afternoon with a picture-perfect picnic in the midst of lush Florida greenery. Don’t forget to bring binoculars to do a bit of birdwatching while you relax. There’s also a playground so the kids can work out all their energy. There is a small entrance fee. Parking is limited so get there in the morning and make a day of it...together.
Wekiva Springs State Park
Leave the bustle of the theme parks...and your worries...behind. Pack the family up and head to beautiful Wekiva Springs State Park for the day. Enjoy a nearly endless list of activities and amenities: hiking, biking, horseback riding, geo-seeking, paddling, boat tours, swimming, rollerblading, picnicking, birding and so much more. If you don’t want to bring a picnic, there are concession stands as well as a restaurant. This scenic spot is a fantastic way to have the entire family connect with nature as well as each other. Experience Central Florida at its very finest. Entrance fee.
Black Hammock Airboat Rides
Airboat rides are abundant in Florida and one highly rated tour is from Black Hammock. Their tours include a thrilling exploration of Lake Jesup which has the largest alligator population in the state and a tour of Bird Island which is believed to be the largest colony of wading birds in the area. This exhilarating and unique view of nature is perfect for the entire family and the tour provides hearing protection and life vests for kids. Get photos with baby gators and visit the colorful aviary before heading over to the Lazy Gator Bar for a cocktail with a view or the very popular Black Hammock Restaurant to enjoy (vegetarians, stop reading here) the “best gator tail in town” along with other delicious dishes and homemade desserts.
After days spent in Orlando-area nature during our best season, get a great night’s rest at your luxury vacation villa and you are pretty much guaranteed to wake up refreshed and ready for your next experience. Springtime really is the most magical season here with so much to do and perfect climes in which to do it.
