It may be our near-daily sunshine or the convenience and efficiency of the Orlando International Airport, or a combination of both, that make Central Florida a remarkable destination for golf enthusiasts. There are many outstanding courses in the area and even our mini-golf and putt-putt courses are considered, pardon the pun that you knew was coming, above par. Fittingly, a large number of PGA pros call the Orlando area home. Here is a short list of links that you should try on your next Florida vacation.
The most obvious choice is just steps from your luxury vacation villa. Reunion Resort offers three signature courses designed and developed by some of the most legendary golfers in the history of the sport. Plus, it boasts a driving range that is the perfect place to practice or simply hit a few balls to relax.
Arnold Palmer – Legacy Course
This 18-hole course is as beautiful as it is challenging, winding through a breathtaking landscape that includes natural preserves. Wide fairways and strategically placed grass-sloped bunkers beckon you to make the most of every hole.
Jack Nicklaus – Tradition Course
This course showcases Jack Nicklaus’ exceptional design skills complimenting his legendary status as a golfer. In fact, 35 of his courses have been ranked in various national and international Top-100 lists, and this one is no exception.
Tom Watson – Independence Course
This 18-hole shotmaker’s delight by Tom Watson is his first in Florida. Play this challenging course and see what he has gleaned from his years in the sport.
This course features two – the National and the International – distinct Greg Norman signature designs that perfectly commingle with the area’s natural habitat, forming 36 holes of championship golf in magnificent surroundings. This is a popular course so you’ll want to reserve your tee times in advance. If you are staying in a villa at the Retreat at Champions Gate, this course will be conveniently under your feet.
Celebration Golf Club
Another celebrated course that is not far from your villa is Celebration Golf Club. Opening in 1996, the final course was co-designed by the renowned masters of golf course architecture, Robert Trent Jones Senior and Junior. Father and son combined their talents to create this unique course. Surround yourself with beautiful topography and don’t just play golf, experience it.
Grand Cypress Golf Club
I would be remiss in leaving out this course. Grand Cypress is consistently one of the Top 10 Orlando courses and received the 2018 Award of Excellence/Best Resort Course. It offers 45 holes of Jack Nicklaus-designed championship golf and is not a far drive from your vacation villa.
Dubsdread Golf Course
Located in charming College Park, just minutes from downtown Orlando, is Dubsdread Golf Course. It features the oldest public layout in Central Florida. Originally designed in 1924 then renovated in 2008, this classic course has plenty of history attached to it as the former site of the Orlando Golf Open. When the day is done, sit down and enjoy a superb meal at The Tap Room overlooking the beautiful links.
