Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra
I really enjoy and respect the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra (OPO). I’ve seen them perform many times in several different venues and each time, I’m as happy as a clam. It makes me feel elegant and cultured to be surrounded by talented musicians, the magnificent music they create, and a like-minded audience. There’s no time like the present to enjoy (and teach your kids to appreciate) orchestral music and this is a great place to start. The 2019/2020 season will celebrate American virtuosos and the OPO celebrates their final season in the Bob Carr Theater, as next year they will move house to the impressive Steinmetz Hall in the new Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Orlando. The Orlando Ballet
Who doesn’t love ballet–the cultural craft where artistry meets athleticism? I have a picture of myself, circa 6 years of age, wearing pigtails and a canary yellow satin and tulle tutu, standing in the fourth position, smiling (two front teeth missing) at the camera. It’s good for a laugh. Still today, though, I enjoy watching the flit and flutter of ballerinas/os and The Orlando Ballet does not disappoint. The 2019/2020 season offers performances including The Nutcracker, Cinderella, and Mowgli–The Jungle Book, something everyone in the family will enjoy. Visit here for performance dates.
The Orlando Museum of Art (OMART)
OMART holds “First Thursdays” from 6-9 pm on the first Thursday of each month where you can discover local artists, listen to live music, and mingle. They offer cash bars serving beverages and cafe offerings from area restaurants. Sip, nibble and discuss your favorite pieces and works with an eclectic mix of people. OMART has diverse current and upcoming exhibitions that the entire family can enjoy. Well, adults more than kids but they do offer family and youth programs. Summertime Movie Nights in Orlando
Sure our days are filled with heat and sunshine but when the sun sets, we enjoy balmy evenings under starry skies. The perfect time for an outdoor movie. There are several films and locations to choose from and some include Food Trucks, picnic facilities, and nearby restaurants so you and your family can make a night of it before ending your evening with a fun film.
