Rock Springs Kelly Park

Connecting with nature is an integral part of a Florida vacation. Sunshine, beaches, shelling, palm trees, state parks, picnics, outdoor events, swimming—are just a few of so many special things to enjoy here in Central Florida. It’s important to take a day away from crowded theme parks and other activities with a hectic pace, and just relax with your family in serene surroundings.

Located just less than a one-hour drive from your luxury vacation villa, is Wekiwa Springs State Park—thirteen miles of nature trails where your family can experience hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. You can canoe, kayak or paddleboard (for rent at the park’s concessionaire) along the Wekiva River and Rock Springs Run. Enjoy a picnic or take a dip in a crystal clear spring.

Kelly Park

Kelly Park which is very close to Wekiwa Springs State Park is another area that features Florida nature at its best, plus a free-flowing natural spring called Rock Springs that enjoys a refreshing 68 degrees Fahrenheit year-round.

Waft on a Raft at Rock Springs

Get a boost of Vitamin D as you float down the lazy river with friends and family for a revitalizing alternative to a hectic day at the theme parks. Rock Springs Run is a clearwater creek and very popular with tubers. Tube rentals are available from vendors outside the park; you can, however, bring your own pool noodles or floats (less than 5 feet in length or width). Feeling peckish or downright hungry? Kelly Park also features a full-service concession and picnic pavilions. Everything you need to round out a wonderful day in nature.

Summer Events in the Park

Beyond swimming and other water play, Wekiwa Springs Park and Kelly Park activities include wildlife viewing, hiking and a playground for the kids to get out all their vacation energy. On Sunday afternoons in the park’s Interpretive Pavilion above the springs, Wekiwa Springs Park offers Discovery Hour in the Park. Each week, there is a different program presented by volunteers and park rangers on a wide range of topics suitable for the entire family. Remember to pack, bug spray, sunscreen, a hat for sun protection, hydration liquids and snacks. And while pets are not allowed, service animals are.

Both Wekiwa Springs and Kelly Park are very popular destinations, particularly on summer weekends. To ensure entrance, they recommend that you arrive early, otherwise the parking area may be full and you could get turned away. So, why not plan to make a day of it and get your fill of quality family time in beautiful Floridian surroundings? I bet you’ll take away not only wonderful sundrenched memories but some of your best photographs-as-memento as well.
