Spring Break

Springtime. Visions of sunshine and gentle rains. Warmer weather and colorful blooms. The time of year when the most important “tweets” come from fledgling songbirds. Heck, even Vivaldi begins his magnificent “Four Seasons” concerto with Spring. What’s not to love?
It’s my favorite season and here in Central Florida, it’s perfect. Especially when there are free and low-cost things to do in the area that include connecting you and your family with nature:
The Town of Celebration
A short drive from your luxury vacation villa is this Disney-made town where you can admire the gorgeous houses, well-groomed yards and magic of Disney living. Admire the Rockwellian-atmosphere, let the kids play in the interactive fountain or stop by the farmers market on Sundays. Also, only about a 2-mile drive from Celebration is Old Town, an amusement park and outdoor shopping mall that boasts a lot of fun in a family-friendly environment.
Disney’s Boardwalk
You can’t beat the charm of Disney’s Boardwalk, a re-creation of a 1930s-style Atlantic coastal village. Stroll this quarter-mile promenade of diverse dining, unique shops and exciting nightlife. Walk along the water’s edge, play afternoon midway games and delight in evening street performers.
EPCOT
Always dreamed about spending April in Paris but want to avoid the transatlantic plane ride? Hit France up at EPCOT and pretend you are really there… but with much nicer Printemps weather.
If you don’t mind packing the family into the rental car to enjoy a short but memorable road trip, here are a few not-too-far suggestions:
Kennedy Space Center
Take the family to experience the “Greatest Space Adventure on Earth”. Whether your visit includes training like (or meeting) an astronaut, attending a special event or just a day of touring, arrive early for this full-day experience to make the most of your visit. KSC is as entertaining as it is educational.
Harry P. Leu Gardens
Take a day away from bustling crowds and experience peace among a collection of palms, cycads and flowering trees. Enjoy azaleas, vines, bromeliads and tropical philodendrons. Appreciate the sight of familiar annual flowers and the beauty of roses and camellias. Stroll under the awe-inspiring branches of camphor trees, elms and oaks. Relax and enjoy your vacation.
Geocaching
Take the family on a treasure hunt. Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game using a GPS enabled device (a GPS or a smartphone). At Leu Gardens, there is an interactive cache gives clues that lead to a treasure. Make a beautiful spring day a unique family memory at this serene 50-acre botanical oasis.
